How do task reminders work?

Set a time under Remind me on any task and you get one alert at that time.

Open a task, pick a time under Remind me, and save. You get one alert at that time, and nothing else about the task changes.

Choosing a time

  • At due time, 15 minutes before, 1 hour before, and 1 day before are measured from the task's due date and time. If the task is moved to another day or time, the reminder moves with it.
  • For a task with a due date but no time, choose Morning of or Day before. Both alert at 9:00 AM.
  • Custom lets you pick any date and time. A custom reminder stays put even if the due date changes.
  • To remove a reminder, set Remind me back to None.

If you remove a task's due date, a reminder that was measured from it is removed too.

Where the alert shows up

The reminder goes to everyone assigned to the task. If nobody is assigned, it goes to whoever created it.

  • A notification in the bell, with a pop-up and a sound while you have Coastline open. If Coastline is in a background tab, the tab's title changes to the reminder until you click back into it.
  • A browser or phone notification, if you have turned those on.
  • An email or a text, depending on your settings under My Account > Notifications > Task reminders.

If your calendar is connected

When a task has a due time, it also appears on your connected Google or Outlook calendar, and the reminder is added to that event. So you are not alerted twice, the alert then comes from your calendar instead of from Coastline.

Changing the reminder in Coastline updates your calendar event. Changing it directly in Google or Outlook does not change the task, and the next update from Coastline replaces it.

Reminders on tasks without a due time, and custom reminders set for after the due time, always come from Coastline.

Asking Current

You can ask Current to set reminders for you. For example:

  • "Remind me to call Jane Tuesday at 10." Current creates the task, due Tuesday at 10:00 AM, with a reminder at that time.
  • "Remind me an hour before my inspection task."
  • "What reminders do I have this week?"
