Who can change my workspace settings?
Anyone whose role holds the "Manage workspace settings" permission, plus the workspace owner, and Settings, Roles is where you see and change which roles hold it.
Any member whose role holds the "Manage workspace settings" permission, plus the workspace owner, who holds
every permission by virtue of owning the workspace. Nothing is decided by a role's name: it is decided by
whether that role has been given the permission. Settings, Roles (/settings/roles) is where you see which
roles hold it and change that.
Admin always holds it and cannot have it taken away, which is what stops a workspace from locking itself out of its own settings. Every other role, including ones you create, holds it only if you grant it.
Some settings have their own permission, so "can change settings" is not one single answer:
- Project overhead, on the Financials page, has its own key. Someone can be allowed to set the tax rate and not the overhead formula, since overhead lands on every project's budget.
- Expense categories, payment methods and a project's serving location each have their own permission too.
That is why a teammate can reach a settings page, see the values and still be unable to save. The fields are readable and the save is refused. If someone reports that, the fix is on the Roles page rather than on the settings page they were looking at. Article how to set your default tax rate, overhead and margin notes which permission each half of the Financials page follows.
There is an audit log at the bottom of the Roles page. It records changes to roles and to who holds them: roles created, renamed and deleted, a role's permissions changed, and a member moved from one role to another, with the member who did it and when. If a permission changed and nobody remembers agreeing to it, that is where to look.
Your own preferences are a different thing entirely. Everything under My account belongs to you, needs no permission, and affects nobody else. Turning off an alert is covered in how to turn off an email or text you keep getting.
