Do bulk actions trigger automations?
Yes. A bulk action runs the same automations a single edit would, once for each affected record.
Yes. A bulk action runs the same automations a single edit would, once for every record it changes. If you have an automation set up for a change you are making in bulk, that automation runs for each affected record, exactly as if you had opened each record and made the change by hand.
What this means in practice
Say you have an automation that sends a text whenever a deal moves to your Won stage. If you select 20 deals and move them all to Won in one bulk action, the automation runs 20 times, once per deal. Nothing is skipped, and the runs are not collapsed into one.
This is intentional. A bulk action is a faster way to make the same edit across many records; it is not a way to make that edit quietly. Your automations behave the same whether you change one record or a hundred.
Which bulk changes run automations today
Not every field starts an automation yet, so here is exactly what runs right now:
- Pipeline stage changes run your stage automations for each record you move.
- Contact changes, such as adding tags to a contact or changing a contact type, run your contact automations for each contact you update.
Some bulk changes do not start an automation yet, so nothing runs for them:
- Changing an opportunity's tags, owner, or lead source in bulk updates those records, but it does not start any automation.
We are adding more of these over time, so more bulk changes will run automations in the future. If you want to be sure whether a specific change will run one, open your Automations list and look for an automation whose starting condition matches the change you are about to make.
