How do I ask customers for reviews automatically?

Turn on the Request a review automation to email each customer for a review when their project closes.

Open Automations in the sidebar, open the draft called Request a review when a project is closed, check the email it sends, and click Activate. From then on, each project you mark closed emails its customer and asks for a review.

Before you start

Add your review link in Settings, then Reviews. The email's review button opens it, and the automation cannot send without it. See How do I add my review link?.

The email is sent from a team member's connected email account, the workspace owner's to start with. If that person has not connected one, Activate tells you so.

Set it up

  1. Open Automations from the sidebar.

  2. Open Request a review when a project is closed. Every workspace starts with this draft.

  3. Click the Request a review step to open its settings on the right.

  4. Check the email (see below), then click Activate at the top right.

What you can change

  • To: who receives the email. It is set to the project's primary contact email, so you can usually leave it as it is.

  • Send from: which team member the email comes from. It starts as the workspace owner; you can pick the project's sales rep or project manager, or a member you choose. Whoever you pick needs a connected email account.

  • Subject: the email's subject line.

  • Message: the note your customer reads. Click the Dynamic Value button to add details such as the customer's first name. Your review button and your workspace's contact details are added around the message for you.

Good to know

  • A request goes out only when the project's customer has an email address.

  • It is sent when the project is marked closed, not when it is created or won.
