How do locations change my estimate defaults?

A location is not just an address. It can carry its own tax rate, default profit margin, estimate expiration window, disclaimer and time zone, and each of those is used instead of the workspace default for projects assigned to that location. Leave a field blank and the location inherits the workspace value for that field alone, so you can override the tax rate and inherit everything else.

Locations are at Settings, Workspace, Locations (/settings/workspace/locations). The page appears in the Workspace settings list once the Multiple Locations add-on is enabled, and a second active location needs it. Your first location is always allowed.

How a project gets its location. A new project inherits the location of the member who created it. On an existing project the field is Serving location, and changing it needs its own permission rather than the general settings one.

What each field does when it is set.

Tax rate replaces the workspace default on new estimates and invoices for that location's projects. This is the single most common reason two projects in one workspace show different rates: see why is the tax rate on my estimates zero.

Profit margin and expiration window replace the workspace values from Settings, Workspace, Estimates. The expiration side is covered in how to change how long estimates stay valid.

Disclaimer replaces the workspace disclaimer at the bottom of the estimate PDF, which is one of the things a customer actually reads. See how to change what customers see on estimates and invoices.

Time zone replaces the workspace time zone for that location, and is filled in automatically from the address when the address is specific enough to place it.

One quirk when you add a location: the financial defaults are copied from your default location so the new one starts somewhere sensible. The disclaimer is deliberately not copied, so a new location starts on the workspace disclaimer until you write its own.
