How do I move a payment to a different invoice?
Edit the payment and change which invoice it is applied to.
Open the payment from the project's Payments tab or from Finances, then Payments, and choose Edit from its menu. Under Apply to invoices, lower the amount on the invoice it is on now, raise it on the invoice you want, and choose Save changes.
The editor lists the invoice the payment is already applied to, with its amount filled in, so you can see where the money sits before you move it. You can't apply more than the payment's amount in total, so take it off one invoice before you put it on another.
Cleaning up an extra invoice
A common reason to move a payment is an invoice you no longer need, for example a separate invoice made for a progress payment. Move the payment onto the main invoice first, then void the extra one.
Every payment stays on its own line on the invoice it lands on, so your customer still sees each one with its date and method. See How do I ask a customer for part of an invoice? if you want one invoice for the whole job from here on.
