How Coastline stores your photos

When you add a photo to a project, Coastline saves a high-quality copy along with smaller versions used for fast galleries, reports, and email attachments.

• Photos are stored as JPEG at up to 16 megapixels. That is the same bar Google Photos uses for its space-saving backups, and a standard 12 MP phone photo keeps its full resolution.
• Larger captures (24 MP and 48 MP camera modes) are scaled down to 16 MP.
• iPhone photos taken in HEIC format are converted to JPEG so they open everywhere: in your browser, in photo reports, and for the people you share them with.
• Videos are stored exactly as uploaded, with no conversion or compression.

What that means

• Photos in Coastline are ready to use anywhere. Galleries, photo reports, emails, and orders each load the right size in the right place, so everything stays fast.
• Coastline is not a byte-for-byte backup of your camera roll. The stored copy is visually equivalent at up to 16 MP, but it is not the identical file your phone captured, and camera metadata such as GPS location is not stored. If you need the untouched original for archival reasons, keep your own copy as well.

Downloading photos

Downloading a photo from the gallery gives you the stored high-quality copy. Photos with markup download as the annotated version.
