How much does texting cost?
A one-time $39 registration fee, then $25 per month with 250 messages included, and $0.02 per message segment after that.
Texting costs a one-time $39 registration fee to get set up, then $25 per month. Each month includes 250 messages, and after that it's $0.02 per message segment. Here's what each part covers.
One-time setup: $39
When you first enable texting you pay a one-time $39 fee. It covers assigning a dedicated number to your workspace and submitting your business registration to the carriers, which they require before any business can send texts. You pay it once, and you aren't charged again if a registration is rejected and has to be resubmitted.
Monthly: $25
Texting is a $25 per month add-on on top of your plan. It keeps your number active and covers the first 250 messages each month.
After 250 messages: $0.02 per segment
Once you've sent 250 messages in a billing month, each additional message segment is $0.02. Sent and received messages both count. Any overage shows up on your monthly invoice.
What is a "segment"?
Carriers measure texts in segments: a text of up to about 160 characters counts as one segment, and a longer text is automatically split into multiple segments that are each billed separately (emoji and special characters lower that per-segment limit, so they can turn one long message into more segments). Keeping messages short and skipping unnecessary emoji keeps most texts to a single segment.
Turning it off
If you turn off texting or downgrade, the $25 monthly charge stops and your workspace keeps its number and registration, so texting picks up where it left off if you turn it back on. See Why didn't my text message send or deliver? if you've turned it off and messages aren't going out.
