How do I import accounts, opportunities, vendors or contractors from a CSV?

Every list has an Import CSV button and its own template to fill in.

Open the list you want to fill, click Import CSV, download the template for that list, fill it in, and upload it. Every list has its own template, so the columns always match what that list expects.

To importWhere to find Import CSVRequired in every row
ContactsContacts, the arrow on the New Contact buttonFirst name, plus an email or phone
AccountsContacts, Accounts tab, next to New accountName
OpportunitiesOpportunities, the arrow on the New buttonFirst name, plus an address if your workspace requires one
VendorsContacts, Vendors tab, next to New VendorName
ContractorsContacts, Contractors tab, next to New ContractorDisplay name

When a list is still empty, its Import CSV button also appears in the middle of the page.

Keep the template's headers. Columns are matched by their header name, so leave the header row as it is. Optional columns can be left blank. To put several tags in one cell, separate them with commas, like vip, repeat.

Check the preview before saving. You'll see which rows are ready and which have a problem, with the reason on each one. Nothing is saved until you confirm.

Duplicates. Coastline checks your file against what's already in your workspace, and against itself:

  • Contacts match on email or phone.
  • Accounts, vendors and contractors match on name or email.
  • An opportunity whose email or phone matches an existing contact is added to that contact.

For each match you choose whether to merge it into the existing record, skip it, or create it anyway. A merge only fills in the fields you pick, and never blanks a field that already has a value.

Who can import. Each list's import needs the same permission as adding a record to that list. If you don't see Import CSV, ask a workspace admin.
