How do I design an email template with blocks?

Open Templates, click New Template on the Email tab, and choose Design email. You build the layout from blocks on a canvas instead of typing HTML.

Open Templates from the sidebar, go to the Email tab, and click New Template. Choose Design email and you get a canvas: you add blocks, arrange them, and see the email roughly as your customer will, instead of typing HTML into a text box.

This needs the Visual Email Designer add-on, which you turn on from the Marketplace on the Professional plan, and the Manage email & SMS templates permission. Without the add-on the Email tab keeps working exactly as it did and new templates open the plain writing editor.

Starting one. Pick a ready-made layout (project kickoff, milestone update, estimate follow-up, event invitation, seasonal reminder, or review request) or start from a blank canvas. A starter is only a head start: every block in it can be edited, moved, or deleted.

Adding blocks. The library on the left holds content blocks (Heading, Text, Image, Button, Divider, Spacer), layout blocks (Section, Two columns, Three columns), and brand blocks (Logo header, Social links). Click one to add it, or hover the seam between two blocks on the canvas and click Add to put it exactly where you want.

Editing a block. Click any block and the panel on the right shows what it can change: the text and its size, colors, padding, alignment, a button's link, an image's size and alt text. Colors come from a small palette with a hex box underneath for a brand color that is not in it.

Moving and removing. A selected block shows a small toolbar with up, down, duplicate, and delete. The Delete or Backspace key removes the selected block too, and Undo and Redo in the top bar cover every change you make.

The email's own settings. Click the space around the email to open Email Settings, where the subject, the default recipient, and the background and text colors for the whole message live.

Personalizing it. Insert fields like the contact's first name or the project name from the token button beside each text field, so one template reads personally for everyone who gets it. See saving and reusing message templates for how a template is picked at send time.

Saving. The designer saves when you click Save, not automatically, and the button is only active when there is something to save. That is deliberate: automations and sequences read a template at send time, so a half-finished design must not be able to reach a customer.

Checking it. Use Desktop and Mobile in the top bar to see the real rendered email, then Send test to mail yourself a copy. Reading it in your own inbox is the only real check, and a designed email can look different there for reasons worth knowing in advance.

Pictures are covered separately in adding images to an email template.

Marketing sends add the unsubscribe footer automatically. You do not add it and you cannot remove it.
